Just as you are: Acceptance as an agent of change

 

FullSizeRender-3Last month’s theme was “Clarity.” I am still in the process of tidy-ing up and releasing what no longer “sparks joy.” (Those of you with children can relate to the monumental quality of this task. Here is a photo of what “sparks joy” for my little one: You cannot imagine how many of these toilet paper creations we have…) However, I was able to clear my closet, several cupboards, and SOME toys.

This month’s theme is Make a Plan. However, before you can make a plan, you have to know where you are and to where you want to go. This is where things like diets and budgets fail. If you don’t know your actual patterns then you are not going to successfully change any of them. And you are going to perpetuate feelings of deprivation along with the illusion that there is an arrival point at which you won’t have to continue the work of consciously living your life. So. Back to noticing. The zen teacher Cheri Huber writes:

“All you must do is accept all that is unacceptable to you.”
